Who Says That Sunsets Have To Be Orange

A little more fun with photoshop.

This picture did start out as one of those bright orange susets ... you know, when you point the camera directly at the setting sun and the whole sky is lit up like fire. (note to self: do not look through view finder when taking these type of shots; the spots in my vision have almost faded an hour later)

But I have plenty of shots like that. So I decided to try something different with this one. What do you think?

p.s. I'm on 12 hour night shifts this week, and I have to leave for work in like 3 minutes, so don't have time for a "turorial" on this one. But, I do have the layers, so if I'm semi-conscious in the morning, I may add a little bit to this post.

p.p.s. actually, now that I look at it, I'm not even sure I like the shot all that much ... but don't have time to fix it now ... oh well.

update: here is the original orange (as requested by Barbara)

  1. I don't think it looks bad. It just looks like day time.

Btw, speaking of sunsets... I was loving the sunrise the other day and I thought of what you said, it's hard to make a sunset/sunrise interesting. And it IS. Now I'm struggling with how to capture a sunrise/sunset while making it look good... I'm always so in love with the colors though.

  2. Hi Ari,

Oh yea, I really like the colors of sunsets/sunrises too. I think for me though, I just took so many pictures of that sort of thing when I was in Hawaii, that now it's just "ugh, another sunset". Usually if you see me post a sunset, it means I was in a hurry and didn't have anything better planned.

As for your stuggles ... I've seen your pictures remember? You have a great imagination ... use it! ... and trust yourself. You'll find something to make that sunrise interesting.

  3. What a lovely picture! Wish you had also posted the original, beside the 'shopped version.

  4. Post the original ... glad you liked the purple one.
